depending on the model of bike, I am not a huge yamaha dirtbike pro, Honda is my specialty. if you look at your exhaust pipe and see a large chamber called the expansion chamber, it will require premixed 2 stroke fuel... im thinking that you will have to look at the operators manual, because im not sure with yami's if they need to be pre mixed or mixed in tank, but generally you will want to pre mix vs in tank mixing..

Tee Hee... My name is Thomas, I have same bike, 1982 Yamaha IT 465. What a beast... anywho, the reason for your troubles is called a kickstart return spring. These break often (so I've heard) due to the large size of the piston and large amount of compression, which requires quite a kick. Trust me, my kickstart punched a hole through the bottom of my vibram soled redwing boots. Anywho, I found a replacement at Babbits - http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx - for about 30 bucks a while back. Hope this helps.
