Once they people killed to many foxes and the rabbit population started to rise faster and faster until people let out the virus that nearly killed all the rabbits!it will stop foxes killing chickens for fun. Foxes kill many, many rodents and other small animals that can carry diseases harmful to man and that compete with many for food. Rodents damage or destroy vast amounts of grain and other human foods each year. They also kill rabbits who eat large amount of grasses and crops that serve as food for domestic livestock. Foxes are very wary around humans and rarely cause human injury and rarely take on livestock. Basically, the fox is much more beneficial than it is a menace. In the city where I live, one neighborhood complained to the city that there were a number of foxes in their area. The city trapped them and had them killed. Within months the same neighborhood was complaining that their area was overrun with mice and rats. Gee, I wonder why?
Fox hunting began in 1632. People went with dogs so the dogs could smell out the foxes. Traditionally they hunted the red fox but now they hunt all kinds of fox. It has become a sport all over the world but mainly in USA Canada Russia Ireland and Poland. Fox hunting has been going on for 300yrs Ancient Rome with possibilities going back to ancient Greece and even Egypt. People have never miss an opportunity to hunt something. United Kingdom

The red and gray foxes are the kinds of foxes you might see in wooded prairies in California. Red foxes can be found in many places in central and northern California, away from cities and towns. There have been some families of gray foxes in the Foothill Horizons in Sonora.
