Just about any type of horse can be trained to do barrel racing. Some horses are just naturally better at it then other horses. Usually you want a horse that is fast and can turn fast. Alot of people use QH and paints. I have Ridden a mustang and a paint in barrel racing and they both did very well.
Yes, even though Arabian are not built for quick turns, Arabians are fast. You'll just really have to work with your horse on turns.
Yes. You want a nice short fast horse to get around the barrel's quicker.

Fast."Some horses are not built to run fast an may only do a fast canter at their best; however, the gallop is about 30 mph. Thoroughbreds, which are bred for running distance but not speed, have been clocked at over 40 MPH. Quarter horses, bred and raced for short distances at speed, can reach 50 MPH in short bursts."
They can be though they are not as fast as thoroughbreds.

The Quarter Horse is the best ranch horse because of their ability to run fast, short, distances.
Quarter Horses are the fastest for short distances, clocked at 55 mph! Thoroughbreds follow next at only 40 mph, but they can go much longer distances.
Their genetic make-up is made for running fast.
