The Russian Civil War occurred in 1917 and lasted till 1923. During this time the communist revolution in Russia took place and Lenin and the Bolsheviks implemented their change. In 1917 the Bolsheviks made their first attempt however they were crushed by the Red Guards. In 1918 peace negotiations between the Germans and the Bolshoviks broke down. The Treaty of Brest Litovsk pulled Russia out of WWI and gave Germany vast amounts of Russia. In 1919 the Bolshovik government was now in control of the core of Russia, from St Petersburg to Moscow In 1920 the war between the White Army and the Red army continued In 1921-1923 the Red Army was in control of Russia. In July 1961, two years after the 1959 Revolution, the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations (ORI) was formed by the merger of Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement, the Popular Socialist Party led by Blas Roca and the Revolutionary Directory March 13 led by Faure Chomón. On March 26, 1962 the ORI became the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution (PURSC) which, in turn, became the Communist Party of Cuba on October 3, 1965.
