Generally, no. Bike parts are a lot more expensive when bought one by one as compared to buying an assembled bike.

The only way you can get away cheaper is if you're very, very good at bargain hunting, and maybe have a stash of parts already.

Bicycles are much more expensive as parts than they are as complete assemblies. Building your own only makes sense if you want something really special, or can get parts really, really cheap someway.

Bicycles are much more expensive part for part than as a whole bike, so unless you're willing to spend a lot of time bargain-hunting it makes much more sense to pickup a complete bike instead
