In the 2000 Summer Olympics, Ivan Pedroso of Cuba won the men's competition with a jump of 8.55 meters and Heike Drechsler of Germany won the women's competition with a jump of 6.99 meters. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, Dwight Phillips of the United States won the men's competition with a jump of 8.59 meters and Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia won the women's competition with a jump of 7.07 meters.
