Republicans all believe the exact same thing word for word, making them far more cohesive, and brainwashed, then the democrats who have their own individual opinions and beliefs
Currently the Democratic party is perceived as more cohesive, since they control the Presidency, the House, and the Senate

false.
The CHP is the next most-voted-for party after the Green Party. Between 2004 and 2008 it declined in popularity. However, recent disatisfaction in the Conservative Party (the only currently "big" conservative party in federal politics) is bringing more and more people over to the CHP. Many people like the CHP for various reasons: their opposition to same-sex marriage, their opposition to communism, their opposition to corporate rule, their opposition to parties bribing voters with their own childrens' money...
The Conservatives, the party in power, is waging a war on drugs and building more prisons. The NDP, the opposition, would legalise marijuana but not other drugs The Liberals say they would decriminalise marijuana but they have often made such promises in the past only to ignore them once in power.
At the moment (October, 2014) the UK has a Conservative (Tory) Government in power, helped by a coalition alliance with the Liberal Party (the Tories failed to win an outright majority vote at the last election), and a Labour Party in opposition. More importantly, who ever is in power, they were democratically elected by the people of the UK!
The Official Opposition serve to keep the ruling party in check. They make sure that any act unconstitutional or unjust does not go unprotested. They serve to deter the ruling party from becoming more powerful than their position allows. Without an opposing party, we get dictatorships and totalitarian control.
y.b.chavan . he belonged to the congress party which itself was the ruling party . This situation resulted due to the clause in our constitution which says that the opposition party must hold atleast 1/10 of the total lok sabha seats . and in 1952 elections , CPI was the only other party in the lok sabha having more no. of seats than congress . the CPI held 16 seats out of 489 seats . thus a.k.gopalan of the CPI is not the 1st leader of opposition but it is y.b.chavan
the populist party belived in more power to the government and it was also called the peoples party.
By dominant party system is meant a party system where more than one party exists and freely competes but one party gets much higher support than any other party. The opposition parties are weak and divided. For example in India the Congress party enjoyed unbroken spell of power forabout 30 years i.e. from 1947 to 1977. After remaining in opposition forless than three years it again emerged as the dominant party in 1980. It lost its power again in 1989. Hence, we can say that dominant party system may not be a continuous or permanent one.
Parties are formed form groups of people with the same political goals coming together to try and achieve these common goals. In a democratic country there must be at least two parties but there may be many more. At an election, the parties put up their candidates for election and the people vote for the candidate they want to represent their views. Usually the party with the most elected candidates will form the party of government (the ruling party) and the rest form the opposition. However, in countries with more than one party, it may be that no one party wins a majority of seats and in this case, a group of parties come together to form a coalition government with the rest forming the opposition.
