Some bowlers use a wire brush on the bottom of their Bowling shoes to create more friction and reduce sliding on the slippery approach. This is most often done on the non-sliding foot, so the player can put more strength into their slide. However, since lanes and alleys differ in how much slide they have, the wire brush is a quick way to lessen a slide.
