so the ball will roll easier and the ball will hook harder when the oil ends making for a better hit. without oil you would have to bowl straight. hooking on a dry lane will but you in the gutter hard

When Bowling sometimes you end up with either a smooth or rough ball if the bowling lane is rough the lanes would get messed up. If it is a smooth ball it wont go all the way down because it has no momentum.

oil is applied to preserve the lanes. otherwise lanes would wear down in no time.
