I could not find the first African American woman to actually run in the Olympics. But I did find the first African American woman, actually women, to make the USA Olympic team. Their names are Louise Stokes and Tydia Pickett. Stokes finished third in the 100 meter dash at the US Olympic trials in 1932 and was named to the squad as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. According to what I read, she was replaced at the games and did not actually compete. I couldn't find any information about Tydia Pickett other than she and Louise Stokes made the 1932 US Olympic Team. The first African American woman to win a medal at the Olympics was Audrey Patterson who won bronze in the 200 meter dash at the 1948 Games in London. Alice Coachman was the first African American woman to win gold when she won the high jump event at the 1948 Games.
George Poage and Joseph Stadler were members of the US team at the 1904 Games in St. Louis. Poage won bronze in the 200 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. Stadler won silver in the standing high jump and bronze in the standing triple jump.
