But credit should not go unmentioned to Althea Gibson, the first African American woman to really break down the boundaries in an era where black athletes struggled for acceptance and recognition. Once allowed to compete she won repeatedly including the singles and doubles championship at Wimbledon.

Despite being a very powerful woman, the only area in which Venus can compete with Serena is arm strength. Otherwise she is much the weaker of the 2 sisters, despite being the elder. A quick look at her shoulders and upper body will show that she is not nearly as well developed as Serena in these areas. Serena is well known for having hugely muscled and legs which are much more powerful than any other girl on the WTA tour. Her closest rival in this department is probably her sister, but even Venus's long legs look desperately frail and fragile next to her younger sister's.
