Craig Mottram is one of the greatest non-African born distance runners ever to live. In his prime, he competed with the greatest Africans of the time (most notable Haile Gebrselassie) while they were in their primes. A bronze medalist at the 2005 Athletics World Championships in the 5000m, Mottram is known both as "The Big Mazungo" (white man, to the Kenyans, as he was often the only white competitor in most of his events, trailer for a corresponding documentary can be found in the related link) and as "Buster", for his laid-back, good-natured attitude and demeanor. He has competed in four Olympics, starting in 2000 at Sydney, placing as high as 8th in the 5000m event. He holds the Oceanic records for every major athletics event between the 1 mile run and the 10,000m run, displaying remarkable range for a distance runner.
