The complete ins and outs of the Fed Ex Cup are very complicated, but I will tell you the essentials.Basically all PGA Tour players are entered into the Fed Ex Cup at the start of the season (January). Each player receives points for their finishes in each event, with the winner obviously taking more points. The points vary according to the quality of the field i.e WGC events and the Majors. There are four events at the end of the season, these are known as the playoffs. The playoffs are for the top 125 players. The players need to earn more points to ensure they get into the next event. For the second PO event, the field is cut to 100, cut to 70 for the third PO event and cut to just 30 for the final event, The Tour Championship.Once the players get to the final event, all the points are reset, thus meaning if any player in the top 5 wins the event, they win the Fed Ex Cup. This has attracted much criticism in 2009 as Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington have not won a PGA Tour event all year, but could win the Fed Ex Cup if they win the Tour Championship. But it all depends on finishes in the tour championship, there are too many to explain.
