The first world record for the 100 metres took place in Stockholm Sweden on July 6th 1912. The time was 10.6 by a man called Don Lippincot from the USA. It was duplicated (10.6 again) by Jacklin Scholz, again in Stockholm on Sept 16th 1920.

The fastest man in the world is Usain Bolt. He set the world record for the 100 meter sprint. He ran up to 100 meters in 9.58 seconds.
As of my last update in October 2023, the Senior Sprint Records are typically held by elite athletes in track and field, particularly in events like the 100 meters and 200 meters. For men, Usain Bolt holds the world record for the 100 meters at 9.58 seconds, while Florence Griffith-Joyner holds the women's 100 meters record at 10.49 seconds. For the 200 meters, Bolt also holds the men's record at 19.19 seconds, and Griffith-Joyner holds the women's record at 21.34 seconds. These records are subject to change as new athletes compete and potentially break them.
