It's thought that a game resembling table tennis was in existence in England as early as 1884 and various names were used during the history of table tennis with Gossima, Whiff-Whaff and Ping Pong all either patented or trademarked.

Ping pong, or known as Table Tennis, most likely began in England as a Social Hobby. It was possible to be towards the end of the 1800's as the starting era. Balls of cork and tables made up some of the early equipment that was used. Back then, it may have been referred as film-flam, gossima, or ping-pong.
