Wheelchair tennis began in 1976.
As it became more popular, it was introduced to the Paralympic Games in 1988 at Summer Paralympics in Seoul. This was only as a demonstration act and it wasn't until the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona that it became a Paralympic competition.
