Top weight is how the loss weight from drilling is offset.manufactures put extra weight in the good of the ball which is marked by a punch, the CG, center of gravity. Top weight carries the ball further down the lane before it flips. Higher top weights, more skid flip. However, with today reactive Bowling balls and complex cores, top weight is less important from a performance stand point. Please also remember that USBC legal limits are based off of top weight. No more than 3oz difference top and bottom after drilling and 1oz all around. If you are using a thumb slug/inserts you will be replacing some of the weight loss from drilling so a lesser top weight may be selected.

Pin distance will be important because to put the pin above the fingers with a 3oz top weight and a 1-2 inch pin will be hard. Always inform your drilled how you want to lay the ball out or what reaction you desire before purchasing a ball, specially online.

And as a pro shop owner myself, please, purchase equipment from your local shop. If you want a pair of jeans to fit you go to the store, not a .com!
