If only I knew! There are a lot of ways in which you can lower your handicap.
* Take lessons, a professional looking at your swing and helping you through different techniques and strategies can really help knock shots off your game * Practice your weaknesses, not your strengths. Ten minutes on something you struggle with is worth more than ten minutes perfecting one of your strengths. * Improve your short game, this includes pitching, chipping, 100 yards and in and putting. More than half your shots in a round of Golf are from 100 yards and in. * Try thinking your way around the golf course, play for the centre of the greens if the pins are cut in tricky places. A lot of people say play away from the danger.
* If you have been hitting your driver straight right all day, and you step up to a tee shot with out of bounds right or trees right, don't hit the driver. * Play to your potential, do not try and hit shots the pros would struggle with, making a 5 is always better than a 7 or 8. * Always take the positives from your round, do not think of the bad. Yes your round could have been a bit better, but also a lot worse. * The proper equipment can have a massive effect on your game. There are a couple of things to note, swing speed is directly related to the shaft flex, if you have a slower swing speed regular shafts may give the ball a better launch angle and flight, than stiff shafts. Do not feel you need to get an 8.5 degree x-stiff driver, because you may not be able to hit it, whereas a 10.5 regular may be perfect for you. * Finally, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
What you have to remember is, getting from 20-10 is easier than getting from 10-5 which is a lot lot easier than going from 5- scratch.
Work backwards. Count your putts throughout the round, and try to reduce this number. work towards getting lower than 36 putts per round. The number will be reduced furthermore with good, consistent chipping within 3 feet of the hole. You should sink over 90% from here. Once thats good, work on pitching from 100 yrds and in, your goal is to again get within 3 feet. after this the game looks after itself. Drive for show etc etc...
A golf handicap is a numerical representation of a playerβs ability,
You get a shot on the holes as determined by the stroke index or handicap as set on the score card. So if your handicap is 9, you get one shot on each of the holes ranked 1-9 on the stroke index or handicap index. Using your handicap, you get a shot on the hardest holes 1 being the hardest and 18 being the easiest.
A golf index is the same thing as a golf handicap - it measures a golfer's ability.
