Right now...Pete Sampras is at the top with 14 Grand Slam titles, next is Roger Federer. But when I research (on wikipedia), they discussed that Bill Tilden was the greatest player...then there is Donald Budge who is the 1st person to win all four grand slam titles... that's all I know so I really have no idea who is the 1st person to rank #1 in tennis.
When Brian Dabul lobbed the ball to Roger Federer's side of the court, Federer happened to be at the net. He spun around to run toward the baseline, but a few steps before reaching the wall behind the court, and with his back to the net, Federer swatted the ball between his legs. It landed in a corner next to Dabul, who just raised his eyebrows and shrugged. It was the highlight of day one of the tournament at Flushing Meadows. Federer had made a nearly identical through-the-legs-with-his-back-to-the-court shot against Novak Djokovic in the 2009 US Open semifinals.
Yes. Over the past two years it has only been Rafael Nadal who has stopped him in the French Open. However Nadal has a long-term, persistent ankle injury which is effecting his speed and power around the court. Roger Federer continues to improve on clay and I see him winning it if not this year, then next, and with it the career Grand Slam. No, not after Wimbledon 2008. Roger Federer is going through a major slump although he doesn't admit it. Meanwhile, Nadal is becoming better and better. On August 18 2008, Nadal will become No.1 in tennis.
Actually the record is currently (as of 26th May 2011) still held by Guillermo Vilas who won 46 straight matches. Next is Ivan Lendl who won 44, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg both won 42 straight matches and then comes Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic who have both won 41 straight matches. Therefore given that Djokovic is currently through to the 3rd round of the French open at Roland Garros he still has the potential to draw level with Vilas if he can win the tournament.
It will be the next tournament in which he plays.
Andy Roddick is the highest ranked American. He is #5 overall. The next is Sam Querry and then James Blake.
