There are four companies the seem to be more popular than others. Storm (probably most), Colombia 300, Brunswick, and Hammer. I am personally a Hammer freak specifically the Black Widow series of balls. From all the different balls that I have used, the Black Widow seems (to me) to have the smoothest of rolls and it really impacts into the pocket, I love it. I have had other balls, but I always come back to the Hammer Black Widow. I get excited when a new one is released. That is only my opinion and you have to find what you love. You really have to try different balls until you are happy. I am happy with Hammer! I am NOT a professional bowler! Jason J. Mullen

Due to constant changes in the bowling industry, there isn't a common or popular ball always used by professional bowlers. Many professional bowlers may have an equipment sponsorship deal that limits their use to a specific brand of ball. The sponsor may also require, for purposes of promotion, to have a player use a specific ball during a tournament.
What is typical of professionals is that they have a ball geared to make picking up corner pins easier. Usually a plastic ball or one drilled in a fashion to limit the hooking of the ball.
