The world record for men is currently 12:37.35 and was set by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele in 2004 in the Netherlands at Hengelo.

On a road course, the world record is currently 13:00 and was run by Sammy Kipketer in the 2009 Carlsbad 5000. Kipketer also tied his world record in the 2010 Carlsbad race.

The world record is 12.37.35 set on May 31st 2004 by Kenenisa Bekele

This is NOT the world record for the 3 mile--it's the world record for the 5000m. The world record for the 3mile is probably about 5 sec or so faster, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

The world record for men's 10 kilometer or 6.2 miles is held by Kenenisa Bekele of Ethipopia, running 26 minutes 17 seconds and 53 millisecond. This record was recorded in Brussels, Belgium on August 26th 2005.
