It means the player took 89 strokes to complete the stipulated round. Let's hope that was for 18 holes. It could be 89 actual strokes, a stroke defined as "a forward movement of the club with the intent of fairly striking the ball" or some could be penalties for things like losing a ball in a water hazard.
This means to golf 18 holes scoring 79 or fewer strokes. A typical 18 hole course has a par of around 72, so breaking 80 would be to begin to approach the scores excellent golfers achieve.
You can break a golf club slamming on the ground or by abusing it.
Playing golf...
Depends how long you have been playing. If you have just started keep at it, try to break 90, then 80 then maybe even 70.

Phil Mickelson is completely right handed - he simply learned to play golf left handed. He is right handed in everything else in life - except golf!!!!!!
Probably a golf ball, it is a lot denser. If you dropped a golf ball on a concrete floor it would bounce, if you drop a brick it will break.
