As it is an anaeorobic sport the best diet for it would be lots of starchy carbohydrate rich foods, this is because the food releases energy slowly and helps when the quick release of energy is needed. Obviously you need to keep a fairly balanced diet still but carb rich foods are good. Before you go to the shot put drink lots of glucose rich drinks which will also help to release the energy and get a good distance.

Generally it does not matter what a shot putter eats. Of course, healthy and good quality food is needed to maintain energy. High fat foods are not bad for a shot putter, it is just not a good source of energy. Always eat lots of protein such as meat and dairy to help your muscles regenerate after exercise. Maintain exercise everyday and not just weight lifting but shot sprints and hurdling is essential for a healthy shot putter.
