It certainly can, as seen in this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vVd_6pLmMo
The pinsetters and ball returns are built with complected mechanics. While they are built well, they can break down due to wear and tear as well as lack of maintenance. Some parts in some machines wear more often then others. Sometimes pins getting deflected from the bowling ball can hit and either dislodge or break parts.
It softens the cover making the ball break more. Careful! Too soft a cover is illegal

In cricket the leg break is the type of delivery which the bowler uses. This is the delivery a right handed spin bowler uses and is part of the slower bowling styles.

Bowling.
The British do not hate bowling. There are many bowling lawns and bowling alleys .
No, that is just silly. A bowling ball would not fly at all, and could not be rolled on the greens, nor would it stay on a tee, or fit in the hole. If you hit a bowling ball with a graphite shafted club, the club would break, if you hit it with a steel shafted club, the club would break, and debris would fly up and possibly stick in your eye, blinding you. Your wrists would also snap like match sticks.
It depends on if you are speaking of the American Tenpin Bowling, Canadian Tenpin Bowling, Duckpin bowling, Candlepin bowling, etc.
