A strike is to knock down all ten (10) pins in the first delivery of a frame. If if takes you two (2) deliveries to know them all down it is referred to as a spare. If you cannot knock them all down with both deliveries, it is called an open.

Sometimes referred to as a Jersey, a Brooklyn strike in Bowling is hitting the pocket on the opposite side of the bowler's normal "pocket" or sweet spot. For instance, a right handed bowler's pocket shot is between the one and three pin. If his ball werer to travel across the lane and hit the spot between the one and two pin and knock down all the pins on their first shot, this would be a Brooklyn strike. For left handed bowlers this would be the opposite.

Note: Right handed backup bowlers use the one-two pocket as their primary pocket, so a one-three side strike would be Brooklyn for them. The opposite is true for left handed backup bowlers.

If your were a right handed bowler, it would be a strike when the ball hits the pins on the left side of the head pin. Opposite if you were left handed.
