Probably before your time if your in your early 20's. FloJo was a world-class sprinter who was very good for a number of years but wasn't breaking any records. After about a 2-yr layoff from 85-87 she returned and was 2nd at the world championships in the 200m. However, in 1988 she set the world of track on fire. She showed up at the olympic trials and set a wr that stands to this day of 10.49 in the 100m and then went to the Olympics where she won double gold in the 100m and 200m setting the wr in the 200m of 21.34 that stands today. FloJo was known for her glamorous outfits, six-inch nails, and her beauty. She was dodged by steroid rumors that were never proven. She suffocated on her pillow in 1998 due to a brain defect that caused her to seizure. As others pointed out, steroids were never proven or disproven.

She was repeatedly accused of owing the enormous improvement in her results to the use of steroids. She always denied this, and during competitions her tests always came up negative. She announced her retirement however shortly after it was decided that athletes would from now on be randomly tested all through the year instead of only during the competitions season.
Another challenge was that she had been subject to seizures over a number of years. It was a final seizure during her sleep that caused her to suffocate in her pillow.
Her nickname, FloJo, was a shortened combination of her two names. But it also seemed to ring true to her flamboyant dress and personality.
