It all depends how much money you have to spend on it. If you are very keen, but don't know if the game is for you there are a couple of options.
1. Buy a complete set, these aren't the greatest clubs in the world, but the are reasonably priced and of decent quality. These sets give you everything you need such as driver, woods, irons, putter and bag.
2. Buy the things individually off eBay or from the second hand section in your local Golf shop.
3. Take a punt and buy everything you need and hope you'll enjoy the game and it lasts you a few years.
My advice personally to you, would be, buy a beginner 'box set' as they are called and use it for about a year or so, if you are bitten by the golf bug and start getting good at the game you can replace things one at a time, such as driver or irons etc. The thing that sets beginner sets apart from clubs off the shelf is, that the beginner sets are designed for the beginner and are a lot easier to hit. You may find if you buy some clubs second hand they may be aimed at the better player and you may not be able to get the best from them.
