I am a sprinter . I run the 100 m and 200 m . I was train by and Olympic runner. I would say power is important but you may not be a power runner , you may be a finesse runner . A finesse runner is one that can keep their form through and entire race. Pushing off the blocks and getting out is a vital part of sprinting. In order to not get left behind when coming out of the blocks you gotta be focused and have enough power before you reach your hot tracking phase. If you donou 't stay down and drive then you will have no power to complete the race. You're time will be off and it's a possibility that you will not make finals / win.

Power, speed, strength and timing are all essential to being a good sprinter. Power and strength are required to reach your full speed, with speed actually keeping you running. Timing is also important so you can start of at exactly the right moment.
