If you want to compete someday, look for a gym that has a team. Starting at a gym with team girls can be very aspiring and inspiring. If you only want gymnastics to learn some basic tools as coordination and strength, then look for a gym that offers only recreational classes. Gymnastics is a sport for anybody! So if you are interested in joining, the next step is to just go and have fun!
Some clubs require a leotard while others do not. Just be sure to ask when you call to join. When you call, the gym will let you know if you need to make an appointment to have an assessment to help determine which class you will begin in.

I also know that this is the only level that regular meets can qualify you for state, level 5 and higher have to qualify at zone to move on to state. Hope this helps!
