Badminton isn't just about hitting the shuttle over the net, it is about having good co-ordination to place the shuttle where your opponent is going to struggle to return it. You improve your co-ordination skills by loads playing badminton.
Secondly, there are players who are going to send you running round the court. You need to have quick feet to get to where the shuttle is going. You need to be able to quickly change directions to get to where the shuttle is going. Badminton improves you foot work.
Finnaly, In badminton you need to have some good stamina, if your facing a tough opponent, you may have really long rallys that make you go sprinting round the court. You need to be able to keep up the quick pace for long rallies and games. You stamina will build heavily by playing badminton.

Badminton was a demonstration sport in 1972, an exhibition sport in 1988, and a full medal sport in 1992. Badminton most certainly began on the Asian continent, but the exact origins are unknown. By : Joanna100 =)
