You need core strength (strong abs) for Gymnastics. If you don't have that, Gymnastics will help you build that up, and with it, many things in Gymnastics will be easier. Strong arms and legs are important too, but core strength is the main thing. You will probably also boost your memory, because you will have to remember your routines, and when to connect skills (round-off to back hand-spring - the rebound {which comes after the round-off} you will learn is the beginning of the the back-handspring.).
In gymnastics:
1. Flexibility: you ALWAYS need to stretch before and after practicing. After stretching a lot you will be suprised how flexibile you will be. Being flexible will help you so much in your tricks!
2. Strength: With all the weight you're carrying on your arms/legs, you will be sooo much stronger!
3. Balance: Your core muscles are your best friend in gymnastics, it helps you control and balance yourself! If you have bad balance your form will look really bad and you may hurt yourself
* hope this helped :)

Most say that being taller can affect your skills with gymnastics. This is only half true. Most men are taller than women, and they compete in the Olympics. Every body is different, and each (being tall and small) has its advantages. If you want to try competitive gymnastics, sometimes being tall will make it tough. Sometimes you may be moved up a division due to your height. If you are doing recreational gymnastics, it will not affect you much at all.
