In tenpin Bowling, brackets are a type of gambling that is sanctioned. It is the only sanctioned gambling because it pits a bowlers skill against another bowlers skill instead of a chance game. Each bowler pays the entrance amount (sometimes one dollar or five dollars). Bowlers are entered into a random drawing (either mechanically or by computer). They are then drawn against another player for each game. They are usually given handicap to make it a fair bet. The winner of the heads up match moves on to the second round with all of the other winners from the first game. The loser is then eliminated in that bracket. This happens each game and the winners of the third game win the pay out for the bracket. The person who came in second after the third game usually wins their money back to enter that one bracket. It is possible to enter into many different brackets there by increasing your chances of winning money.
