At the Olympics, men compete in floor exercise, horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings, pommelled horse, and horse vault. Along with those six competitions, there are competitions in team all-around and individual all-around.
For the team competitions, the number of gymnasts in a team is 6 (but sometimes with a minimum of 3 -this situation can occur if a club does not have enough gymnasts in a particular level). There are many options for team compositions, depending on the competition. Some of these: At the Olympics and other major international competitions, there are 6 gymnasts in a team and 3 compete on each apparatus, with all 3 scores contributing towards the team score. At other competitions, there are 6 gymnasts in a team - 4 compete on each apparatus and the best 3 scores count towards the team total. The other option is where there are 6 gymnasts in a team and all compete, with the best 4 scores counting. This situation often occurs when all gymnasts must complete all apparatus (such as a qualification for the next round).
Floor Vault Rings High Bar P-Bars (Parallel Bars) Pommel Horse There is also: Trampoline Power tumbling (kinda) ^these last two are not really events in gymnastics... so if you were to start training for gymnastics you probably wouldn't be doing the trampoline or power tumbling unless you wanted to.
GIRLS-4 BOYS-6
In 1996 and prior years the Olympic gymnastic teams were comprised of 7 gymnasts, in 2000 they were reduced to 6 gymnasts, and this year (2012) it was reduced to 5 gymnasts.
There are six different types of gymnastics. These are; womens artistic, mens, rhythmic, trampoline and tumbling, acro, and group. In womens artistic gymnastics, there are 4 events; vault, uneven bars, balance beam and the floor exercise. Women can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In mens gymnastis, there are 6 events; floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and the high bar. Again, men can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In rhythmic gymnastics, there are 4 events; clubs, hoops, rope, and ball. Women can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In tramp and tumbling, there are 4 events; trampoline, synchronized trampoline, double mini trampoline, and tumbling. These gymnasts can specialize in any of these apparatuses or compete them all (however there is no all-around competition) In acro gymnastics, there different events based on who makes up the group. There is; women's pair, women's group, men's pair, and mixed pair. For group gymnastics, there are two events; group jump and group floor exercise which each squad competes in. I hope this helped!
Gymnastics meets may vary depending on how many level gymnasts there are in a certain area. If there are 500 level 4 Gymnasts in Atlanta, GA, then the meet directors will break the gymnasts up into sessions. Usually, there are no more than 100 gymnasts per session.
The FIG (the International Gymnastic Federation) changed the rules in the team competition. In the 1996 Olympic gymnastic team competitions four gymnasts from each team would compete on the apparatus during the team competition. The lowest score (out of four) was dropped. Only 3 out of the 4 final scores counted. Because more gymnasts competed on each event, there were seven team members. 4 gymnasts competed, and 3 sat out. After the rule change, only 3 girls from each team compete on an apparatus and all of the scores count. If a gymnastic team had 7 members, then 4 girls would sit out each event, and that is one too many under the FIG rules. Because only 3 girls can sit out and 3 girls compete on each event, the maximum number of gymnasts a 2008 Olympic team can have is 6.
In women's artistic gymnastics (what is known as regular gymnastics) has four events. The Balance Beam, the Uneven Bars, the Vault, and the Floor Exercise. Athletes may choose the events individually and just compete that event, or they may choose to compete in the all around competition. Meaning they compete on all four apparatuses.
Well you will usually have six gymnasts that will make the qualifications to compete in the Olympics. Then during the qualifications to see who will compete on which event you can have as many as 5 gymnasts but only the top four scores are counted.
Í think that 6-7 people can compete in swimming.
