∙ 12y agoYou will use a 32-player-draw for 23 tennis players, so you will have 9 byes (32-23=9). There should be 1 seed for every 3 unseeded players for a 32-player-draw, so 23/(1+3)=5.75 and then = 6 seeds.
You can use the same way to find out the number of seeds for a 16-player-draw. If you use a 64-players-draw, you have to divided by 8, which means 1 seed for every 7 unseeded players.

∙ 12y agoYou need two play-in games, where number 8-9 and 7-10 play. (Another way of looking at it is that the first 6 seeds get byes.) The winners of the two play-in games play against the 1 and 2 seeds. From top to bottom on a chart that would have 8 players: 1 vs winner 8 or 9, 4-5, 3-6, winner 7 or 10 vs. 2.

The quickest way of allowing an overall victor to be found with 50 players is to use the Swiss system, whereby players on the same (or similar) score play each other in each round. Assuming in each game, the best player wins, there will need to be at least 6 rounds to determine a winner in this method. However, it will not guarantee a winner because the best player doesnt always win their game! However every player gets to play in every round. Alternatively you could use a knockout system. 36 players would play in the 1st round, whilst 14 players would get a bye into the 2nd round. Therefore, in the 2nd round you would have 32 players (18 winners + 14 byes), and then it would be straightforward KO from there.
