How much money does a cardiosurgeon earn?

not sure exactly but cardiothorasic surgery is quite costly and as the nephew of a cardio thorasic surgeon i can say that one surgery can go up to about 40.000 rand so for a surgery that last four hours at two a day and 20 working days a month that a hell of a lot of money and trust me it shows but then again he has no time for his family so it isn't all fun and games.

Not to mention he did give up 12-14 years of his life after high school(and likely was one who overachieved and had a limited filling of fun in high school) to work as hard as possible and beat the competition, without pay until the end, and came out in great debt(which would be payed off without too much trouble, as such specialized surgeons are only created as needed, as spots for programs are limited, probaby by the AMA, and therefor would have a guaranteed(and high paying) job, unlike a doctor graduating from medical school).

Also, of that $40,000, a HUGE amount of it will go to overhead, such as extremely costly medical malpractice insurance for everyone involved in the procedure(s)/operation(s). Doctors that make so much do so largely in part due to the need to attract the BEST of the best(to become doctors and be the best in med school.. the most capable will arrive at the top), because such medical work is VERY risky and dangerous, even with current technology.. which also would be the need for malpractice insurance to me so high. It is far too easy for something bogus to hold up in court and unconstitutionally/unfairly be ruled in favor of the plantiff. If the odds of success are not very good, the cost of insurance and therefor the procedure/operation will just rise, because there will be a lawsuit regardless, and the defendant will probably win, even if every party knows there is a good chance of a good doctor not being able to have success/being strayed by other factors.

The average salary for a cardiovascular surgeon is around 800,000-900,000USD$$$ per year.
