Essentially, there are one, or none, officials that are on-site during all times at official tournament games. The official's responsibilities would be the score keeper, judge, and making sure that the game is honest and there is no foul play.
For some games and tournaments though, there ARE NO officials. For ever type of competition, the players are actually required to learn the score of their game, rather than let someone else remember it. The players also call their own lines and call the fouls that their opponent might commit.

during badminton tournaments, there are a total of 6 officials officiating the game: an umpire, a service judge, and 4 linesmen (2 for each side of the court positioned at the baseline) . however, during doubles finals of the tournament, another 2 linesmen are sometimes added (one for each side of the court positioned at the doubles service line).
The officials vary, but there are two referees and two linesman during a hockey game.

Although the game of badminton has existed in many different incarnations since the days of Ancient Greece, today's game derives from the western past-time of Battledore and Shuttlecock. It eventually developed into its present incarnation and was definitively launched in 1873 at badminton house, home of the Duke of Beaufort.
