I have an extra vertebrae. A while back I started having severe Back pain when i would do gymnastics. I wen to see an orthopedic surgeon, and with x-rays, I discovered that I had and extra lumbar vertebrae that had some articulation with my pelvis. I took a few months out because the pain was so great sometimes that I couldn't get out of bed for hours. I went back again and the pain returned, and again I took time out, finally I am going back again, I refuse to give up. There is no way to fix it. I do alot of home conditioning to strengthen my core muscles (abs) This helps because, especially when landing, to take the stress off of the lower back. Hope this helps.

Also in all breeds of horse there is the possibility for one of the vertebrae to just not be there, but this is not unique to Arabians as it was once thought to be.
