Mastering the art of Taekwondo is a matter of learning all of the key components, and most of the peripherals well enough to consistently use the skills successfully in self defense, demonstrate them with confidence, and teach them accurately from memory.
The color belt grading system is usually divided into 9 levels, and is designed to prepare the student for the 1st Degree Black Belt. This can take an average of anywhere from 3 to 5 years. Although the Black Belt student is considered an "expert," having become proficient at the basics, it is also considered the "beginning" of Taekwondo training since the color belt knowledge is merely laying the foundation for learning what can be a lifetime education.
In most cases, the level of 4th Degree Black Belt is a "Master." This is usually when an instructor is first permitted to certify color belt ranks under their own authority. Minimum time requirements for each rank level might allow a student to reach the "Master" level within 9 years, however to actually "master" the skills, and the ability to teach Taekwondo is individually assessed, and might take some people much longer.
Their is no way to "Master a sport". Just try your best and train.
