How do you install bmx chain tensioner on the cog side inside or outside of droputs?

on the outside of the dropouts, and no matter what the packaging says they are NOT all universal, I have a failure grade 1 and I just bought "universal chain tensioners for 14mm axles" and they do not fit because the dropouts are short. bring your bike with you to the place or call dans comp.
