it started when well i really don't know people say it all started when one little girl was playing in a field and all of a sudden she flipped and landed on her feet.....
people were all around her looking then somone elts started walking tord her for a minettt the lttle girl thout she was in trouble but then he said well ill be your the first little girl to do a flip.....then he thout he thout and he thout then finally he said.........we can call it a cart-weel the man said.
and that's how people say it all started!!!!!!!!!!!

The sport actually has gone through periods were it has been taken out of the Olympics then a few Olympics go by and they put it back in.!!
