The world record would depend on whether the run is conducted on road or on track. The fastest record reported for a 50 mile run is by Bruce Fordyce of South Africa, who recorded 4 hours 50 minutes and 21 seconds at the London to Brighton race, on September 25, 1983. Please note that most of other top records are within a minute from each other. Bruce Fordyce recorded a road run record of 4:50:51 at Chicago race on October 14, 1984. Don Ritchie of Great Britain recorded a track run record of 4:51:49 at Hendon race on March 12, 1983.
