Your average and handicap can both be established the first week.

To Determine Your Average:

Take total number of games bowled and add the scores together. Then Divide by the total number of games bowled. For instance. Take the scores from three games of Bowling and add them together. Then divide by three. This is your average bowling score (184 + 199 + 172 = 555. 555 / 3 = 185. Your average is 185).

To Determine Your Handicap:

Handicap Percentage is set in the bylaws of the league you joined. If you are unsure, ask your league secretary. The typical is 90% of 210. The number 210 represents the average game score across the league.

Take the average game score and subtract your average. Then multiply that number by the handicap percentage and you get your individual handicap. For example, if we take our average of 185 and subtract it from 210 we get 25. 90% of 25 is 22.5 or 23 pins of handicap (210 - 185 = 25. 90% of 25 or 0.9 x 25 = 22.5 which we round up to 23).

How do you figure handicap for 14 team bowling league?

Each league votes on the handicap system. Common rules is to assign each bowler a handicap based on 90% of the difference between the bowlers average and 200. Team handicap commonly is calculated by summing each bowlers handicap on a team. There is software that does this for you, such as Bowling League Secretary by CDE Software, which the majority of centers in the US use.

Is 80 percent or 100 percent handicap better in bowling?

It's a good question, to which there really isn't a concise answer. Handicap is used to level the playing field so that the lowest average bowlers can compete equally with higher average bowlers. Over the years, studies shown that actually 116% handicap is needed to accomplish that. However, I know of no leagues that would do that. The most common percentage used in handicap across the country is 90%. The important figure, however, is the base. It's important to make sure the base is reasonably higher than the potential of the highest average players of the league. For example, if you have a person who last year averaged 218 and that was the highest average of any of your league members last year, it would be best to set the base at 225 or 230. This way EVERYONE receives handicap. If the base was set at 200, then ANY player who averages over 200 mathematically has an advantage over anyone who has less than 200, even with the players under 200 receiving a handicap.

What is the figure of speech for 'Their living room is a bowling alley'?

When you say, "Their living room is a bowling alley," you are using a metaphor. However, if they have children and the children have bowling pins, a ball, and use it as a place bowl, then it is not a metaphor, but simply a name.

How to figure out your bowling average?

If you are a league bowler, the league secretary as well as house secretary can verify your average. There is also a yearbook which is put out every year. If your league is sanctioned then you will have a yearbook average. To obtain a yearbook ask your league secretary or the Front Desk Attendant to help you.
