Roger makes Piggy fall on a large rock near the water
Piggy's fall is emphasized because it represents the fall of man. Piggy represents good in the story and man can only be held up by the presence of good. Therefore, when Piggy falls, it means that all the good in man has been knocked off.

Piggy's fall reperesents the fall of intellectual, practical, and scientific thinking on the island. Ultimately the boulder which killed Piggy also crushed any remaining hope of returning order and practicality to the group of boys.
