Erie Canal was?
Dewitt Clinton was the man who pushed for the Erie canal. At
first no one thought it would any success what so ever. People
called it "Clinton's Ditch". Then, in 1825 the Erie Canal was
finished. It stretched from Lake Erie near Buffalo, past Syracuse
along the Mohawk river and then to Albany along the Hudson River.
It was a HUGE success, reducing the cost and time for a regular
boat. The Erie Canal was a man made waterway from Lake Erie to the
Atlantic by way of Albany, NY. It helped New York eclipse
Philadelphia as the largest city and port of the Eastern Seaboard
of the US.
