It is called the Dunlop 65 because that is was the compression of the original ball.

It is called 65 because that is the score H. Cotton shot in the final round to win the Open Championship. I believe the year was 1950 but that is not certain. The compression of the ball was 90.

OK, it was the second round in 1934, the lowest score ever shot up to that time in an Open Championship round. (see Henry Cotton, Golfer)
