Brazil used to play in blue and white strip. After Brazil lost the World Cup in 1950, it was decided that a New Jersey should be designed to incorporate the colors of its flag. A competition was held, and the winner was Aldyr Garcia Schlee. The new design was a yellow jersey with green trim and blue shorts.

Brazil has an away jersey that's blue with yellow trim. This goes back to the 1958 World Cup match between Sweden and Brazil. Sweden won the draw to play in their home strip of yellow. The Brazil team didn't have an away strip at the time, so they purchased plain blue shirts which them adorned with the emblems cut from their yellow strip.
