Why didn't Germany win World War I in the first four months of fighting?

Germany, Austria, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria were the Central Powers. They were at a complete stand still against France, Great Britain, and Russia. Ok, so the Russians collapse on themselves because of a revolution into communism (thanks to Lenin), but the Central Powers still had to deal with France, Great Britain, and now coming into the war was the U.S. Essentially, you would think the Central Powers would be able to sue for some sort of negotiations in their favor because the Russian front collapsed, but both sides (Allies and Central Powers) were exhausting their forces, and Germany could not even budge the war in their favor; besides that, the Allies had developed the tank. Germany knew that it was only a matter of time before they would loose, because the U.S. economy was over seas and untouchable. Just like in WWII, it was an unmolestable Garden of Edan. Germany knew that, that is why they sent the Zimmerman letter trying to get Mexico to attack the U.S. Japan would later try to slow us down with Pearl Harbor in WWII, but once again, the size and speed of our economy was too powerful.

Today, we are concerned about an up and coming giant economy, China, but I feel that they too like the Soviet Union are not stable enough to survive what we have been doing since the end of WWII.

The aggressor doesn't start the attack until he's ready, with his troops well prepared and in position; the defender is often unprepared, with his forces spread out over the entire front. In 1939, the Germans were already 4 years into their military buildup, while the French and British only started preparing in 1938.

But in the long run, the attacker uses up a lot of his troops and equipment, and the defender has additional time to call up reserves to repel the attack. In the cases of World Wars 1 and 2, the French and British called on the United States to provide assistance, and in each case the American material and troops turned the tide of the war. Of particular note, the civilian population of the United States had absolutely no desire to be involved in a war on December 6, 1941. By December 10, 1941, Americans were crowding into the recruiting offices to enlist and fight.
