Manchester United didn't change their name in 1933, they've been known as Manchester United FC since 26 April 1902.

They started existence as Newton Heath L&YR F.C. in 1878. In 1892 to sever the links to their rail depot origins and becoming an independent company they changed their name to Newton Heath F.C..

In 1902, the club neared bankruptcy but was rescued by a sizeable investment from J. H. Davies and the Board decided that a change of name was required for the new start therefore Manchester United FC came into existence
