In 1988 wasn't Soccer World Cup. There was European Cup. No one won the World Cup in 1988 as this was the year of the European Championships, which takes place every 2 years. The world Cup takes place every 4 years and the next world cup was in 1990 in Italy. I think Argentina won in 1986 and Germany in 1990. I think that Holland won the European Championships in 1988 with Marco Van Basten scoring an infamous hattrick and wonder goal in a team that included Rikkyard and Gullit, etc.

There was no World Cup in that year. The closest one to that was 1998, France won that one.

Brazil won it on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Italy in the final. Terrible game.
