There were many. The main running backs that took the majority of rushing attempts during that period were Merril Hoge, Leroy Thompson, Barry Foster, Erric Pegram, Bam Morris, Amos Zereoue, Jerome Bettis, Duce Staley, Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall.

During the 2011 season, the Steelers running backs were Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and John Clay. Their fullback was David Johnson.

Mendenhall and Dwyer ended the season on injured reserve.

There were several backs during each season. Merril Hoge, Bam Morris, Erric Pegram and Barry Foster pretty much carried the load for the Steelers from 1990-1995. Jerome Bettis became a Steeler in 1996 and finished out the decade as the premier running back for the team.

For the 2010 season, the starting running back for the Steelers was Rashard Mendenhall. He was backed up by Mewelde Moore, Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer.
